PUBLIC NOTICE WITHDRAWAL OF ACCREDITATION OF OBA OKUNADE SIJUADE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES, IGBINEDION UNIVERSITY OKADA, BENIN-CITY. EDO STATE.
After a proper appraisal of the Reaccreditation Visitation Report to the College of Health Sciences, Igbinedion University Okada, Council at its 3rd plenary meeting held in Abuja on 12th August, 2010 decided to withdraw forthwith, the accreditation of the College of Health Sciences of the University until all the inadequacies and deficiencies found as communicated in the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria’s letter Ref. No. MDCN/713/VOL.II/123 of 17th August , 2010 written to the College are fully rectified and the entire College restructured.
Council looked exhaustively at ways of encouraging the present trend in the College so as not to dampen enthusiasm but at the same time to avoid dereliction of its duty of ensuring that every Medical School achieved the set minimum standards, so that its products would meet acceptable national and international standards.
Council however, wishes to reassert that the issue at stake is the unsatisfactory and inadequate training of students who shall be licensed as doctors to treat the citizens of this country. Council feels that it will be failing in its duty if out of any consideration whatsoever, it allows the improper training of prospective doctors by relaxing the approved minimum standards as a gesture of goodwill.
Council would be ready to pay an accreditation visit to the College after it must have been restructured and improved in staffing and facilities to the acceptable standard and if the University invite such a visitation.
For the avoidance of doubt, the implications of the withdrawal of the accreditation are: 1. Where a set of students graduate from the college within six (6) months from the date of the withdrawal, they would be required to take Council’s assessment examination and become registered if successful. 2. If the College fails to regain accreditation within one year of the withdrawal, students would lose the privilege to take the assessment examination and must be firmed out to an accredited Medical School with the Council’s approval. 3. The College is to cease admitting new Medical Students, until it regains its accreditation.
Compliance with this decision of Council is a must.
